Residence documents for European nationals

As an EEA national, you are not required to obtain any documentation to confirm your right of residence in the UK. However, it is nevertheless useful in practice to have a Registration Certificate to confirm your right of residence in the UK. After having lived in the UK for a period of 5 years in accordance with the European Regulations, you will be eligible to apply for a document certifying permanent residence. Having obtained permanent residence status, you will then be eligible for naturalisation and become a British citizen.

If you wish to apply for your non-EEA family members to join you, or remain with you, in the UK, you will be required to demonstrate that you are residing in the UK in accordance with the European regulations and are exercising Treaty rights in the UK.
